Are you an adventure enthusiast looking for a thrilling hiking experience? Look no further than Oldoinyo Lesatima, the highest peak in the Aberdare range and the third-highest peak in Kenya. Rising to an impressive altitude of 4,001m (13,126ft) above sea level, this scenic hike offers breathtaking views and a chance to immerse yourself in the beauty of nature.
There are two main access points to Oldoinyo Lesatima: Mweiga (Wandare Trail) and Rhino and Shamata Gates (Mt Satima Dragon’s Teeth Hike). For our expedition, we opted for the Dragon’s Teeth trail through the Shamata Gate, to reach the majestic Mt. Satima Peak.
The 8km trail is a hiker’s paradise, surrounded by lush alpine vegetation. As you trek, keep an eye out for glimpses of wildlife and marvel at the magnificent craggy moraines, aptly named “Dragon’s Teeth”. These natural formations add to the allure of the hike, making it a truly unique experience.
But the real highlight of the Dragon’s Teeth trail is the awe-inspiring views it offers. From the summit, you can feast your eyes on the stunning landscapes of Kenya, with panoramic vistas that will leave you speechless. It’s no wonder this hike is considered one of the most scenic in the country.
